Seize the Clay
I fell in love with this process called pottery the year I turned 50. Oh my gosh... I've wasted so much time!!! There is so much I want to accomplish and in some ways, so little time. I'm so envious of the potters I have met who have been making pottery since they were in high school or college or even earlier than that.
Clay is a fickle material subject to shrinkage, cracks, meltdowns, and breakage. However, it is also amazing in the wide variety of forms it can take. It is almost infinite in its possibilities. Working with clay creates a zen-like feeling of excitement and peacefulness at the same time.
I consider myself neither artist, artisan, nor crafter. I am a potter. I love to make pots. I love to work with clay. Every part of this process is fascinating, from working with wet clay to running the glaze tests to the excitement of opening the kiln after a firing. Currently, my work is primarily functional. There is something really rewarding about making a piece that will actually be used on a daily basis. The finished piece carries the creativity of the potter, the power of the fire, and the spirit of the earth.
Oh yes..... The picture on this page is my face (on Demi Moore's body). I created it as a joke and it makes me smile each time I see it. I like to tell people I was Demi's body double. =)
